Tempeh Bacon
Throw this in the oven and try to tell me this doesn't wake up the rest of the family! They'll be rushing the kitchen pining for the pig, but you'll give them something with the same intoxicating flavor without the fat. Looking for protein, honey, it's PACKED!
Ingredients
Setup
- 1-8oz package tempeh
- 3 tablespoons coconut aminos (tamari, soy, liquid aminos also work)
- 2 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- pinch of salt/pepper
Directions
Slice the tempeh in half widthwise (so you have 2 even squares), then slice into ¼-ish strips.
Steam the slices for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, add the coconut aminos, maple syrup, liquid smoke, paprika and salt/pepper to a sealable bag.
Allow the tempeh to cool and add to the bag. Marinate for one hour to overnight.
Preheat your oven to 400-degrees F.
Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and lay out your slices of tempeh in one layer.
Reserve the marinade for brushing. Bake for 10 minutes. Flip, brush with marinade and bake for another 10.
Will keep for one week in a sealed container in the fridge, and up to three months in the freezer.
